Mission to China, Macau and Hong Kong: three agreements and a Chinese pharmaceutical company interested in Madeira
From 30 May to 6 June 2026, Invest Madeira led a mission to attract Asian investment and position Madeira as a gateway to Europe.

From 30 May to 6 June 2026, an Invest Madeira mission visited China, Macau and Hong Kong. The delegation, led by Regional Secretary for the Economy José Manuel Rodrigues, included Ana Filipa Ferreira, executive director of Invest Madeira, Ambassador António Martins da Cruz, University of Madeira vice-rector José de Sousa Câmara and ACIF board president Tânia Castro.
Three cooperation agreements were signed with organisations linked to European, Chinese and Portuguese-speaking markets, including the European Chamber of Commerce in Macau and the International Commercial Association for Lusophone Markets. Madeira was also invited to join the 929 Challenge, an international entrepreneurship competition linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and met Hong Kong's investment promotion agency.
A major Chinese pharmaceutical company, one of the world's 500 largest companies, showed interest in using Madeira as a gateway to the European market. "Making Madeira an option for Chinese companies to enter Europe was one of the goals of this mission", said Filipa Ferreira.
